It’s Grace here, typing furiously on the night before “junior” camp starts at Illahee. It’s my last week in North Carolina, and surely to be one of the most tiring! The girls are little, I’m still getting over a cold, and I’m gearing up for one last burst of energy.
This week, book-wise, was fabulous. As I mentioned in my blog goals, I’m getting back into the swing of new releases. Just in time. I got three packages I was waiting on, and freaked out in the middle of the break room.
As much as I’d love to maintain an air of regality in my posts, I can’t help but go entirely crazy over my copy of Maggie Stiefvater’s latest. She’s my favorite author, hands down. A gifted writer, an eye for detail, and an uncanny ability to craft distinctive moods that seep through the pages. I’m so thrilled to see what this series will bring. And two months early!
I also got a box of books from Penguin — including a much-anticipated book I’ll be spotlighting on the blog Tuesday — that thrilled me to no end. I went ahead and unboxed the titles on my Instagram, so below are screenshots.
Moïra Fowley-Doyle will be sharing her writing playlist and image inspirations on Tuesday, so get pumped! She’s another writer I chase for atmosphere. I’m about fifty pages through this one and loving it so much already. Very shadowy. Very autumn.
It’s been a while since I’ve read Graceling, but I remember being captivated. Kristin Cashore is a skilled world-builder, as mentioned above, and I’m fascinated by writers who can genre-blend well. I’ve heard it’s strange, but it works. (Those books tend to be my favorites.)
Magical realism! Michigan! Curses! Need I say more? This title has been majorly hyped up to me, so I’m expecting great things.
One of my June campers read this one, and loved it. Naturally, the book passed through the hands of a lot of the older campers, and I heard about it in snippets. I’m curious. I also got A Semi-Definitive List of Worst Nightmares, which WordPress won’t let me put up at the moment.
I’ll go back and add links when I’m not under the influence of NyQuil, and I have a moment to breathe among my junior campers! In the meantime, I had a stellar mail week and I hope y’all did too.
