Halloween Reads 2016

halloweenHey y'all! It's Grace here, writing from a Starbucks in Richmond during my fall break - a.k.a gorging myself on pumpkin spice and relishing being in a place where there are actually seasons (although I already cannot handle the cold weather.)I'm in the middle of my midterms, which is why the blog has been quiet over the past week (in case you missed it, I hosted a stop on the blog tour for When the Moon Was Ours, a book that kept me up so late because I couldn't put it down.) I'm done with my Latin and Shakespeare midterms, but I still have my religion class to take. It's my scariest one, so I have to really grind this weekend. In any case, I'm pumped for Halloween. I've lamented about this before, but growing up in Florida means that after the decorated-classrooms, spooky-activities days of middle school, there wasn't much opportunity to be seasonal. The leaves never turned; I never had time to watch the terrible movies. We didn't have corn mazes. It never felt like Halloween in the way it did in other places. My first fall in Virginia has me attempting to set a precedent for immersing myself in the season, and that commandeering the common room TV for 13 Nights of Halloween movie marathons. Plus, it means finding time to read a few of my favorite paranormal books when I can. Here are some of my recommendations from previous years.I wrote this post a couple of years back that I think is my most inclusive, extensive Halloween list - from when the paranormal genre was still huge (RIP) and I had a lot more time to root through them. There are also some assorted Top Ten Tuesday lists with some spotlights (like here and here.) And here's last year's graphic!halloween reads-2And here are a few picks of mine from this year, divided by purpose. Some of my favorite October books are because of their fall-esque, eerie atmosphere. And still others are because they're honestly terrifying. Some are for the wild, paranormal fun. Diverse reads are starred. Let me know if I've missed any!for-atmosphere
