Tune In -- August 1, 2018
Hey y'all! It's Grace here, catatonically writing on my precious, precious day off from the camp session. I've mostly been sitting in this coffeeshop (Appalachian Coffee Company in Brevard, North Carolina) alternating staring at the wall and my phone. While I'm trying to gather the energy to go visit my favorite overlook in the area, I'm not sure whether I can muster up enough mental finesse to move.Seeing as all I've been doing is listen to music for the past hour, I figured I'd go ahead and share what I've been listening to lately. In thinking about it, camp is all about sounds. The sound of gravel crunching, rain on a tin roof, the small murmurs and rustling of campers shifting in their sleep. The number one thing I'm looking forward to about the end of the session is that of sleeping in blissful silence. (I love the camp life though -- one of my favorite states of being.)It's also about music. Everything we listen to has to be Camp Illahee Appropriate. Although we're often lazy and just revert to Taylor Swift, it's made me hunt for music where I can. Also, I'm teaching hip hop to a ton of the kids in our dance classes, so I listen to the same songs over and over.
As I've mentioned, I've been listening to a lot of saccharine pop (thank you, eight year olds.) I'm also training for a half marathon and so most of the music I've been hunting lately has been exclusively that Top 40 that I can run to. See below for an example. Also, I know that listening to classical music turns me into a more productive human being, so I should do it more often. I often describe to my friends how satisfying it is to walk into a Fresh Market and listen to Vivaldi playing as you're picking out all this produce and all to cook with. It's so invigorating and makes you feel like you have your life together (which is absolutely me showing how big of a nerd I am.) So I finally made a playlist called FRESH MARKET FEELING. I have a lot of individual running playlists now, but here's my big one.

I rarely watch TV, but have needed something mindless to fill the time this summer when I'm exhausted from the children. I've started watching Parks & Rec with someone, and I'm finally hopping on the Stranger Things train. The latter took me a few episodes -- like, half the season -- to get into, but I finally started digging the atmosphere and suspense. Weird but darkly paranormal in the way I like.
Surprise, surprise! Your girl is listening to a Maggie Stiefvater book yet again. Luckily, her original fae series -- which I loved, and she still hasn't released the coveted third book, which I don't think she ever will -- is coming to Brilliance Audio in August. YAY.I put on The Raven King again because I needed something to drive to and that's the only one I haven't completely run into the ground yet. The atmosphere is chilling and the book was one of my favorites from last year.
