Top Ten Tuesdays: Middle Grade Books

Today, I'm going to try something new. This is a meme that I literally JUST found out about, and I love making lists, so I thought it was perfect. Top Ten Tuesdays is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Today was a freebie day, so I decided to indulge in my MG-obsession lately and make a list of my favorite MGs!

My Top Ten Middle Grade Books

1. The 13th Reality by James Dashner

This is actually a series by James Dashner. It's a sci-fi/fantasy novel that I absolutely LOVE. It's smart, engrossing, and one of the best MGs that I have ever read. The first book is The 13th Reality: The Journal of Curious Letters.

2. Fablehaven by Brandon Mull

This book is one of those perfect fairy-tale MG books that is richly imagined and lush. This is one of my "escapism" books for when I just need a good, satisfying book.

3. Jack Blank by Matt Myklusch

I only discovered this series a few months ago, but I loved it. When I found that I had won an ARC of the second one, I was ECSTATIC! I loved loved loved the second one and it's a definite must for any MG reader.

4. Percy Jackson & The Olympians by Rick Riordan

This has to be one of the most popular MG series and it's very inventive. Based off Greek myth, The Lightning Thief is the first book. I love the liberties that Rick Riordan took with his mythology and he brought up some of the more obscure myths in a way that was very appealing. It had humor and action. It was awesome!

5. The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black and Tony Diterlizzi

What I thought was strange was that I didn't even know that Holly Black wrote The Spiderwick Chronicles until the other day when I read White Cat and saw her little blurb in the back! I nearly had a heart attack. I think of her as Tithe and White Cat. Both the movie and the book are absolutely wonderful.

6. Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

I loved this book. I always wanted to be a princess when I was younger (as does every little girl) and this book was my go-to. I first read it from the library and then I knew that I had to have my own copy. A copy that is, now, battered and beat up from rereading so many times.

7. When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead

This book is one of those books that completely clears your head. It's perfectly tied together and is one of those eye-opening, incredible books that is fresh and makes you rethink things. When You Reach Me is a definite must-read.8. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson LevinePretty much everything by Gail Carson Levine is amazing, but I do think that Ella Enchanted will remain her best work ever. Honestly, it's an intriguing plot and it's amazing. One of my family's favorite books.

9. The Christmas Doll by Elivra Woodruff

My mom used to read this book aloud every Christmas season to us, at bedtime in the days leading up to Christmas. Reading this book conjures up memories of a glowing Christmas tree and my mother's voice. It will forever remain a book that I read at Christmas.

10. Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

This book was enlightening. A girl mostly alienated by the rest of her schoolmates, and she put her soul into everything. She was quirky and nice and wise, and she called herself Stargirl. Reading this usually makes me cry, but it's too good to not read it :)Thanks for reading,Grace
