Donate to and Support Words Like Silver
I couldn't help but wonder—was independent journalism the big thing?
Published July 16, 2024
Hi! If you've made it to this page, you're likely considering supporting or donating to Words Like Silver. I frequently joke about needing a patron of the arts, and now I'm asking for your help in making my dreams reality.
When I started this publication at age 13—now a full 13 years ago—it was a hobby that faded in and out of view depending on my stage of life. In adulthood, Words Like Silver instead embodies the core of my journalism, sharpened by my experience writing for publications like The Wall Street Journal, Travel + Leisure, and Cosmopolitan. It's fueled by thousands of hours of reading, writing, research, and creativity.
In 2024, I expanded Words Like Silver to cover travel, style, arts, and more in addition to books—a one-stop shop for curiosities at the intersection of aesthetics and culture. "The island of misfit pitches," if you will.
But in order to run and grow Words Like Silver the way I'd like to (and give it more volume), I need a little help. If Words Like Silver makes a difference to you, and you've discovered a new favorite (book, place, rabbit hole, whatever) because of it, I'd love if you'd consider donating to its upkeep and maintenance. The more support I receive from patrons, the more time I can spend building out Words Like Silver—and providing you with quality recommendations and curiosities.
My suggested donations range from the price of a hot coffee to a paperback. Of course, I'm immensely grateful for anything you're willing to give, on a one-time basis or recurring.
For convenience, I set up payment options both on-site here and via Substack, if you subscribe to my weekly newsletter, Succinct-ish. You can pay through whichever is most convenient. They both go to the same fund (my business account), which pays for expenses like web maintenance and fees.
Some promises to you:
- I will never link a book to Amazon. Any affiliate links are purely to independent booksellers or Barnes & Noble. I sacrifice a lot of potential income to do so, but I aim to educate readers as to why buying books from Amazon is harmful to the book industry.
- I will create patron-exclusive opportunities (and hopefully merchandise) to reward loyal supporters at the beginning.
- I may eventually partner with brands, hotels, and similar, but any paid post or exchange will be clearly marked and visible. Every recommendation you read here is solely vetted and approved by me based on my thousands of hours of experience working as a professional reviewer. I'll include a disclaimer in each post promising so as well.
- I will build out an explorable, artistic ecosystem of books, recommendations, and aesthetics you can spend a whole afternoon devouring here.
Again, I am so enormously grateful for anyone willing to support Words Like Silver. Thank you for making my work possible.
